Light oak composite alfresco deck with a breaker board in Mandurah

Composite decking Mandurah

A deck that suits busy lives and salty air

Composite boards are made to look like timber but don’t need oiling or staining, and they won’t splinter or go rough and grey the way untreated timber does. A wash now and then keeps them looking sharp.

That makes composite a great fit for Mandurah, where decks sit in strong sun and salty air, and it’s why most of our recent decks are composite: canal-front alfrescos on the Port Bouvard canals, a pool deck in Madora Bay and covered entertaining decks from Dawesville to Baldivis.

Still weighing it up against real timber? Our guide to composite vs timber decking walks through the differences, or have a look at our timber decking.

Why choose composite

What you get with a composite deck

Here's what a composite deck gives you, day to day and year after year.

No more oiling weekends

Composite boards don’t need sanding, oiling or staining. A sweep and a wash now and then is usually all it takes to keep them looking good.

Made for pools and canals

Composite copes with water far better than timber, which is why it’s so popular around pools, canals and jetties where the deck gets wet often.

No splinters or rough patches

Composite won’t splinter or go rough and grey like untreated timber, so your deck stays smooth underfoot.

Clean lines, no screw heads

We fix your boards with hidden clips, so there are no screw heads on show. Picture frame borders and breaker boards give the edges a tailored finish.

A colour to suit your home

From light greys and oaks to teak tones, red-browns and charcoal. We’ll talk you through the colours and how each one suits your home.

Built on a solid frame

Composite boards are only as good as what’s under them. We build a level treated pine subframe with the right joist spacing and airflow.

Ekodeck composite decking

Ekodeck decking, installed properly

We install Ekodeck composite decking, including Ekodeck in Alpine Ash on a canal-front alfresco on the Port Bouvard canals. Like any composite board, Ekodeck needs the right joist spacing, the right gaps between boards and room for air to move underneath, and we build your deck to suit.

How it works

How we build your composite deck

1. Measure and plan

Andy comes out, measures up, checks your levels and talks you through colours and layout, then puts together a detailed quote.

2. Build the subframe

We set out a level treated pine frame of bearers and joists, spaced to suit composite boards, with room for air to flow underneath.

3. Lay and fix the boards

Your boards go down with hidden clips and the right gaps, finished with breaker boards, picture frame borders and fascias.

4. Enjoy it

We walk you through your new deck and show you how to keep it looking its best.

Composite decking questions

It depends on what matters most to you. Composite needs very little upkeep and suits pools, canals and busy family decks. Hardwood has a natural warmth some people love, but it needs oiling to stay looking good. Our composite vs timber guide goes through it in more detail.

It depends on the size and height of your deck, the board range and colour, how much subframe is needed and how easy your site is to get into. Andy will measure up and give you a detailed quote. Our article on what composite decking costs explains what drives the price.

Like most decking, composite can get warm in full summer sun, and darker colours warm up more than lighter ones. If your deck sits in full sun, a lighter colour or some shade from a patio roof helps. We can talk through colours with you when we quote.

Usually a sweep and a wash with warm soapy water and a soft brush is all it needs. Check your board maker’s care guide for anything specific to your range.

Yes. We install Ekodeck composite decking, and we can talk you through the ranges and colours when we come out to quote.

Yes, and it’s one of the most popular uses. We’ve built composite pool decks scribed to the pool coping and canal-front decks on the Port Bouvard canals.
